Dr. Smith received a Bachelor of Science degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Alabama in 2009. She graduated cum laude from the University of Alabama (UAB) School of Optometry in 2014 with a Doctor of Optometry degree. After graduating from optometry school, Dr. Smith completed a residency in Geriatric Optometry and Low Vision Rehabilitation at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama.
While at UAB, Dr. Smith served as the president of the American Optometric Student Association and the Student Government Association for the UAB School of Optometry. Dr. Smith was inducted into Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society for her academic excellence and the Gold Key International Honor Society for her outstanding leadership and service. During her time in optometry school, she provided eye care services to rural communities in Alabama through her participation with the UAB Community Eye Care program.
Dr. Smith enjoys caring for patients of all ages, with a passion for geriatrics and the management of ocular diseases. Through her education and residency training, she has expertise in the areas of comprehensive optometry, cornea and contact lenses, glaucoma, pediatrics, and low vision rehabilitation. She is a member of the American Optometric Association (AOA), the Alabama Optometric Association, and the AOA’s Vision Rehabilitation Section.
Dr. Smith was raised in Andalusia, Alabama where she lived until she graduated from high school. She currently resides with her family in Birmingham.
