E. Van Johnson, M.D., is a general ophthalmologist and founder of Tuscaloosa Ophthalmology. He has a special interest in cataract surgery, laser treatment, and the management of glaucoma and diabetic eye diseases.
Dr. Van Johnson earned his Bachelor of Science degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Alabama School of Medicine and then completed his residency at Eye Foundation Hospital/UAB. Dr. Van Johnson served in the United States Air Force as Chief of the Ophthalmology Department and Director of Continuing Medical Education in Phoenix, Arizona. In 1992, he established Tuscaloosa Ophthalmology.
Dr. Johnson is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and received the Retina and Vitreous Award from the Eye Foundation Hospital in Birmingham. He has also served as a respected Clinical Associate Professor with the Department of Surgery at the College of Community Health Sciences at UAB.
His knowledge of the field is well proven by the many papers, publications, and articles he has authored and seminars he has directed and lectured, as well as doing clinical rotations with medical students and residents.
